SSU Subraces: Bamboo Golems by EmperorNortonII SSU Subraces: Bamboo Golems by EmperorNortonII
This is number 137 in the "SSU Subraces" series, featuring offshoots of the many races appearing in the "Sleepy Stories" by myself and :iconnayzor:*Nayzor
Bamboo Golem- Bamboo golems are a subrace of golems made of bamboo. They have bamboo skin and hair, with Oriental features. Their bikinis are made of bamboo fiber. Bamboo golems are guardians of empresses and royalty throughout the Orient. They often provide pandas and pandarens with a snack. There are both women and girl bamboo golems in the community, with a few appearing pregnant. Bamboo golems spend almost all of their time asleep, snoring very daintily. Pregnant bamboo golems snore as loudly as regular golems.

They look very stiff but that makes sense since they're made of bamboo, What is that coming out of one of their navels?

Lovely drawing!

Is the star they have around their necks a Magen David by the way? I mean they are golems and golem are creatures from Jewish culture... so it would make sense... I havenīt seen any Magen David on other golems of the SSU-series but maybe I just havenīt noticed them at all.

Best wishes,

Chris

Yes, that's a little Star of David. I do that with all the golems. Partly because golems come from Jewish folklore, but also because I remember the Golem from the old movie looked like he was wearing a Star of David pendant.

I know the Golem is a part of Jewish folklore! As far as I remember the original story was about a rabbi from Prague who created a creature out of loam with the help of magic... The intension was to protect the Jewish society from encroachments. But unfortunately the Golem caused a lot of havoc... even in the Jewish ghetto so the rabbi decided to stop it. In the end the rabbi could put an end to it by turning the Golem back into loam but was killed while doing so...

At least thatīs how I have heard about it.

Best wishes,

Chris

I think the golem legends have some connections to the story of Frankenstein, as well as the story of God creating Adam from dust.

The similarities with Adam make sense but Frankenstein is not an origin of the Golem legends at all.

Frankenstein was written and published in the 19th century while the Golem legends is a few centuries older... I guess it goes back to the 16th century...

Best wishes,

Chris

I wasn't saying that golem legends originated from Mary Shelley's story. I was saying it was the other way around!

I donīt know if Mary Shelley has been inspired by Golems. I rather think she was inspired by scientific experiments back in that days... At least that is how I read about it!

Best wishes,

Chris
