I drew this for :iconnayzor:*Nayzor, for a Kiriban Konsolation. He's a great fan of the Muppets, so one idea for a group pic he had was to depict a number of female Muppets from Sesame Street asleep in bikinis. Depicted are:
Top row: Goldilocks, Jean the Genie, Roxie Marie, Sleeping Beauty, Rosita and Elizabeth
Bottom Row: Leslie Mostly, Betty Lou, Mona Monster, Polly Darton, Prairie Dawn, Zoe, Velma Blank, Ethel Mermaid, Clementine, Rodeo Rosie ad Juanita.
I even tossed in a sleeping female letter Z, just for the hell of it!
Sesame Street was brought to you today by the letter Z!

I overlooked this one somehow. I was a big Sesame Street fan as a kid, as most kids probably were, but I'm embarrassed to say that I only recognize a handful of these characters. It's unfortunate that Sesame Street doesn't seem to have many memorable female Muppets. Even though they've introduced more since I was a kid, they mostly feel shoehorned in to be politically correct and none of them have the same charm as Grover or Big Bird, et al., but maybe I just feel that way because I'm a crotchety adult now and I just can't see the newer Sesame Street as having the same appeal as it once did, back in the "good old days."

I'm with you. Sesame Street just isn't the same as it once was. I don't mind it being multicultural, but I think it was better when it was more countercultural, if you know what I mean. Anyway, you're right in that there weren't many memorable female Muppet characters on the show. I think *Nayzor was a bit hard-pressed when he made the list of females. I was the one who chose the female monster Muppets, and it was hard enough finding any I recognized!

The only prominent character I think you missed is "fairy in training" Abby Cadabby. She's a pretty new addition, but I know who she is because they promoted the hell out of her when she first dubuted. She even got her own Macy's Thanksgiving parade balloon.

I had thought about her, but *Nayzor didn't put her on the list.

Ah. Well, I can't claim to be a fan of the character. I haven't seen enough of her to care much one way or the other, although I question whether a girly girl fairy character is the best role model. Also, she seems somewhat coldly and precisely designed specifically with mass merchandising in mind, whereas all the old school Sesame Street Muppets' development felt more organic in nature.

I love how one of the Zs is sleeping as well.

Just an idea I thought would be cute. You know how many Muppets have noses a different color than their faces? I thought I'd do that with the Muppet girls' navels!
