Well, the virus scare is pretty much over.  Dad wasn't able to download the McAfee program out of his comp, but he had another solution.  He set up a Comcast account for me, and I was able to download McAfee into my laptop that way.  I was skittish about using the computer since the incident.  But I really had no choice.  Anyway, I managed to clean up the virus situation.  For future reference to you all, let me warn you about two programs called SpyFalcon and PestTrap.  They may seem like anti-spyware programs, but they're actually Trojan horse programs.  So keep an eye out for them!  They've caused me too much of a headache, and you shouldn't have to deal with them!

Had a scare Thursday.  I was online in the afternoon when my laptop's toolbar told me I had a virus alert.  I guess I opened a webpage I shouldn't have!  Anyway, I called my dad to see if he had any anti-virus software I could borrow.  Unfortunately, he didn't have any that was up-to-date.  But he said he'd try and download McAfee for free, as he got it with his Comcast account. (I'm hoping this can be cleared up with the software, instead of having to send my laptop to a computer doc!) I'm not sure when he'll get back to me.  I'm writing this entry at a computer at the SF Public Library.  It may take me a while to get to all your messages, but I'll do my best for now.

Just wanted to mention this: for the first time since I joined , I met a fellow member!  It happened at the Cafe International on Haight St. on Thursday night.  I was with a group of friends in the Cartoonist Conspiracy.  We get together every other Thursday evening and draw jam comics.  That night, we had a newcomer, a bonnie Scots lass named Tanya.  She mentioned that she was a member of ! (She's at , BTW.) I've always wanted to meet a fellow Deviant, and I was thrilled to finally meet one!  I didn't already watch her, but I do now!  Hopefully, I'll get to meet other Deviants, particularly the ones I know here already!

Well, gang, it was me birthday yesterday. I am now 36!  Jeez, I'm an old dude!  I don't think I have any watchers that are as old as me!
Anyhoo, I'm at my folks' house for the weekend to celebrate.  We couldn't celebrate all that much yesterday, as my parents had to go to a wedding last night.  Just another case of bad timing in my life!
Today was a bigger celebration.  My folks brought in my birthday cake to my bed this morning, and we had that for breakfast today. (A nice chocolatey cake! ) Then we had a nice dinner out tonight.  We went to Kuleto's, and I had roast duck.
As for presents, my parents gave me a new toaster oven.  Plus, at the office where I work, they had a little party for me at lunch on Thursday.  We went out to Pasta Pomodoro, and enjoyed another rich chocolate cake afterwards.  And I got three new DVDs as gifts: "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed," and "Snatch." (I also got a fourth one in the mail, "Men In Black" , but that was a Yahoo! Auction win, not a present!)

Well, folks, it's Valentine's Day again.  I figured I should post something in my journal.  So, who's my Valentine, you ask?  Well...nobody really. All I got is you guys.  So, anyway, Happy V-Day to my fellow lonely hearts, and to the lucky ones with a S/O!

Just thought I'd tell ya about something that happened last night.  The Cartoon Art Museum held its annual "Comics 4 Comix" fundraiser party.  For the event, comedians perform live! I volunteered to help out.  I figured it would be a good way to go to this party without paying for a ticket!
Anyways, it was a good evening.  Some local restaurants provided refreshments. And the food was better than your average art gallery opening munchies: stuff like baby back ribs and tacos! Plus, we had a raffle and a silent auction.  I did my part by selling raffle tickets.
Since the WonderCon comic convention is happening this weekend in San Fran, a good many cartoonists were there.  I spotted Batton Lash, Sergio Aragones and Scott Shaw!  There were probably a load of others, but I couldn't have identified them by their faces!
The comedy was good. Along with the comedians, two cartoonists even did monologues.  They were the legendary Gahan Wilson and Dan Piraro, creator of "Bizarro."
Also got a little networking in.  I met a lady journalist who is putting together a funny book.  She says it will have things like how to get off the phone from a call from someone you'd rather not talk to.  She offered to have me do the illustrations!  I hope to land this project!
At the end of the night, I helped clean up.  Had to fold and load chairs, do some mopping up and moving garbage, etc. But it wasn't all for nothing!  They gave me the anthology book "Spark Generators 2" for my troubles.  It was a great evening!  I'm looking forward to next year's "Comics 4 Comix"!

Hey, gang!  Notice the asterisk in front of my handle?  It means I got me a month's subscription!  I was expecting to get it, as I had contributed to 's annual Holiday Card Project.  But it took 'em a while to get it to me.  Last year, it came shortly after New Year's Day.  This year, it took about a month!  A friend speculates that it's due to the change of the regime that I might not have gotten it.  I was ready to write the Help Desk, and whammo, I finally got it!
BTW, it'll be my birthday on the 18th.  Just thought I'd tell ya!
